Well, at half-time in the Champion’ League semi-final, the score may be level but things are still in Chelsea’s favour due to the referee deciding to book Alonso for absolutely nothing.
The booking means that Alonso, who can plays so well in the middle of the park, will now miss the return leg next week.
Which is harsh to say the least. Especially as he never touched anyone and still got booked. Yet Makele can take Cisse out on the half-way line as he was about to burst forward and gets no card. Neither does Lampard receive yellow for sweeping away the legs of Finan.
Still, hopefully that means that Alonso can play on Saturday to help Liverpool pick up some points in their pursuit of finishing fourth. And that he won’t have the worry of getting booked in the semi and missing the final.
That’s if Liverpool get there, of course. Which, if there’s any justice in the offering, they do deserve.
